The Database Analyst (Contact Management), under direction and counsel of Manager (Contact Management), is charged with the flawless execution and on-time delivery of data(base)-driven marketing initiatives across any or all communication channels, including but not limited to direct mail, telephone, email, text messaging and web in support of Client business.

responsibilities include some or all of the following:

Audience Selection −

Confirm and refine audience selection recommendation for each data(base)-driven marketing initiative through creation and delivery of audience selection document. −

Create flowchart of audience selection using Visio. −

Extract recommended audience from the marketing database using Contact Management tool (e.g., Unica, Aprimo-Teradata, SAS, Oracle Siebel), using Visio as a guide. −

Employ standard quality control process and procedure throughout the selection process to ensure accuracy and completeness. −

Provide complete instruction to Print Production or appropriate party that details how the audience data file will be used for personalization and customization of the marketing initiative. −

Work with Print Production or appropriate party to ensure that the personalization vendor has correct and complete specifications for marketing communication personalization and customization.

Documentation −

Input all required information on the marketing initiative (e.g., source codes / key codes, circulation, offers, media, etc.) into appropriate systems to facilitate future reporting and analysis. −

Document the data(base)-driven marketing initiative for future reference, including marketing objective, audience, offers, creative versions and communication channels.

Quality Control & Best Practices −

Review all Client marketing materials before final distribution to ensure adherence with Agency and Client legal requirements, best practices and business requirements for back-end processing of consumer responses across vendor

network. This includes, but is not limited to direct mail personalization & lettershop through a third party vendor(s). −

Review all audience selection decks and other Agency documents before final distribution to ensure adherence with Agency and Client legal requirements, best practices and business requirements.

Communication/Teamwork −

Partner with other database marketing functions (e.g., Email Execution-Contact Management, Optimization, Response Management, Agency Technology Services, Data Quality and Assurance) as appropriate to ensure timely delivery of high quality products and services in support of Client business. −

Initiate, grow, and maintain strong, mutually beneficial, productive working relationships with counterparts in Arc Marketing Operations (e.g., Email Execution-Contact Management, Response Management, Agency Technology Services, Data Quality and Assurance), throughout the Agency (e.g., Optimization, Account Management, Print Production, Finance, Legal), at the Client (e.g., Marketing, Finance, I/T, Corporate Affairs, Consumer Research, etc.) and at third party vendors, where appropriate. −

Keep all team members on the same page regarding key projects and initiatives through regular status reporting and meetings. −

Maintain documents per requirements of department document management policies and procedures.

Database Marketing Area Expertise −

Become “resident expert” in contact management function including audience selection process / procedure and contact management tools and technology (e.g., Unica, Aprimo-Teradata, SAS, Oracle Siebel) as well as list selection and list processing by being a member of professional organizations, participating in key projects as well as attending industry seminars and conferences. −

Regularly field questions from counterparts within Marketing Operations, at the Agency, at the Client and at the vendor locations.


Bachelor’s Degree or higher
Up to five years’ experience in a related field such as direct response media, back-end marketing operations, database marketing, campaign management, email execution, data analysis
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
High comfort level with numbers
Attention to detail
Ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team
Experience with direct response (application and strategy)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, Project)
Knowledge of Contact Management Tools (e.g., Unica, Aprimo-Teradata, SAS, Oracle Siebel) is a plus
Knowledge of Query and Reporting Tools (e.g., Cognos, Business Objects, Brio) is a plus
Knowledge of data analytic tools (SAS, SPSS or other) is a plus
