MetaPress R&D has an opportunity for a SQL Database Architect. MetaPress is a publisher services firm that offers internet-based digital publishing solutions to the world’s leading publishers, serving both the content consumption needs of consumers and the administrative needs of publishers.
Objective: The Database Architect is responsible for the database development and production support for internet-based applications and services.
Design, develop, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability.
Troubleshoot production processes and solve problems in a production internet application environment.
Develop and deploy SQL code to production servers.
Provide database services, including stored procedures, to application developers.
Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.
Required Technology Experience (Basic Qualifications):
3+ years experience in a DBA role utilizing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later in a production environment
1+ years experience with SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 or later in a production environment
Desired Technology Experience:
3+ years experience with complex T-SQL query creation (including stored procedures), query tuning, database maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting SQL Server production systems in a tiered .Net environment
1+ year experience with SQL Server Integration Services 2005 or later in a production environment
1+ year experience with .NET programming, either ASP.NET or Windows Forms in a production environment
Experience with running SQL Server in the cloud via Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure for a production system
Database replication, disaster recovery and planning
4-year degree in computer science or a related field strongly preferred
Experience with large-scale databases in a multi-server environment preferred
Experience with SQL Server administration and programming for high-traffic web applications preferred
Microsoft SQL Server certification preferred
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Exceptional analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail

Setting up and maintaining SQL Server Database Mirroring
Database backup and disaster recovery
Database maintenance, planning and provisioning
Setup and monitoring of SQL Agent jobs
Experience with a 24/7 production server environment is a must
Relevant Database Architecture/Programming Skills
Experience with both Normalized and Denormalized data structures, including detailed knowledge of the benefits/tradeoffs associated with each
Creation of stored procedures and optimization of those procedures for performance
Excellent knowledge of T-SQL language is a must
Creation and maintenance of table structures and stored procedures that comply with existing standards
Creation and management of SQL triggers
Relevant Reporting Skills
Creation and deployment of SQL Server Reporting Services reports that target SQL Server stored procedures as their data sources
Creation of stored procedures that aggregate data for use in custom reports. Knowledge of the “GROUP BY” statement is a must
Relevant non-SQL Skills
Designing reports that incorporate both tabular and graphical representations of data
Rapid development of “one-off”, stand alone utilities utilizing both SQL stored procedures and .NET code, to serve as working prototypes until new functionality can be properly incorporated into production tooling
Experience providing database access via web services APIs
Experience with and ability to work effectively within an agile software development process, including SCRUM
