The Database Engineer is responsible for SQL and PostgreSQL databases and servers, including the development and implementation of all tasks associated with availability, data integrity, optimization, backup, restore and security. The Database Engineer position provides top tier support and is instrumental in delivering database and server innovation, optimization, monitoring, analysis and disaster recovery.

  • Administer a variety of database systems including Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and other Database Management Systems (DBMS)
  • Develop and enforce database administration, user standards and procedures
  • Audit, modify and amend data using SQL commands, hand-editing and bulk import/export data to and from DBMS
  • Database and transaction log backups, restores, notifications, and replication between multiple servers and remote sites
  • Evaluate database server integrity, data consistency, performance and security
  • Develop and implement proactive database performance optimization and security measures
  • Build and maintain database systems on UNIX and Windows systems
  • Develop, implement and oversee database projects
  • Research and implement new database systems and technologies
  • Troubleshoot, track and resolve day-to-day database and application issues
  • Assist Development with the application release cycle, troubleshooting database and application related issues
  • Collect, analyze and create reports from different databases for different departments as requested
  • Document and maintain database and application related procedures and standards
  • Maintain and administer Web servers and client-server application servers
  • Assist Client Support with troubleshooting proprietary client-server software related issues
  • Work with Java technologies in supporting the client-server application
  • Database, OS and hardware tuning to achieve optimal performance
  • Work with System Engineers and Administrators, providing application and database support
  • Periodic night and weekend tasks with 24/7 emergency support
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering) or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of DBMS systems
  • Strong SQL and PostgreSQL skills
  • Software development skills e.g. Powershell, Visual Basic
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
