Overview: Management Science Associates, Inc. We are currently seeking a Database Specialist to lead in the creation and support of our internal database. The successful candidate must have knowledge of database concepts. This position will provide vision, leadership and strategy as well as actively participate in the design, implementation and subsequent operations.

  • Learns MSA's data environment and assists with the maintenance of large databases
  • Trains in all functions of database management including access, allocations, validity checks, security, documentation and statistical methodology
  • Performs routine DBA tasks with supervision
  • Provide DBA services to internal and external clients in UNIX and Linux environments
  • Designs, implements and maintains all functions of database system including SQL, OS commands
  • Build new databases from scripts and imports; refresh existing databases
  • Modifies databases according to development requests
  • Writes and maintains basic shell scripts
  • Assists in all DB functions including access, allocations, validity checks, security, and documentation
  • Assists in the integration of various systems through the database system
  • Conducts backup, recovery and query tuning
Required Skills
  • Requires a four-year degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent experience
  • Entry-level job. This is a Database Administrator (DBA) training position requiring less than six months of experience
  • Understands basic relational concepts, basic operating system commands, and basic business aspects of technical problems
  • Knowledge of relational databases, Structured Query Language (SQL), and UNIX or Linux operation system
  • Some experience on Oracle or SQL Server databases a plus
  • Knowledge of programming or scripting language (JAVA, PL/SQL, Perl) desired
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks
  • Strong communication and technical skills
