The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the manager of IT infrastructure, programmers, business groups, software vendors, and the Network and Server Administrators. This is accomplished through managing and monitoring database server configuration, activity, performance, and security. This role will be required maintain the database environment and application integration. The environment is primarily MSSQL, some Oracle, and various applications and appliances that use and interface with them. The environment consists of multiple servers in multiple locations as well as a failover environment for DR purposes. This will include the creation and general maintenance of databases, servers and applications they interact with, as well as managing the DR recovery strategies for them.


This is an expert level position with no supervisory responsibilities

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Preventative and proactive maintenance on all databases and database servers.
Research upgrades and patches to the databases, database servers, applications, application servers, and install essential ones.
Monitor security and activity logs. Document and investigate irregularities and make improvements where needed.
Troubleshoot database and application performance problems.
Create and maintain security on the servers and databases.
Backup the Manager of IT Infrastructure, Network and Server Administrators as needed.
Work with various application vendors, departments, and end users to ensure most efficient use of database environment.
Special projects as directed by the Manager of IT Infrastructure.

Qualifications & Work Environment:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
At least 5 years’ experience working in a database and applications administration role.
Proficiency with: Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database Server Environments as well as application access and delivery methods.
Preferred certifications: MCSE Data Platform/Business Intelligence, Oracle Database Administrator
Knowledge of windows server and network administration
A demonstrated aptitude for learning technically advanced concepts
Basic knowledge of Hyper V and VMWare a plus
Expert level SQL programming, security, database management, and architecture design required.
Ability to monitor, tune-up, and troubleshoot environment performance and implement changes to make improvements.
Knowledge of database backup and recovery methods and applications required.
Ability to maintain reporting, alerts, and scheduled SQL DB jobs.
Experience with web, application, and mobile application development and programming a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to explain instructions to people
Motivation to solve problems quickly, but thoroughly as well as the ability to proactively and continuously look for potential ways to improve functionality and performance of the end users.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Demonstrated experience as a customer focused and user advocate in a support role
