We are seeking a Datacenter Technician to join our Ops team, to help build and maintain Etsy's fast-growing infrastructure. You'd be on a team of infrastructure supernerds, working extremely closely with Etsy Engineering to help provide the technical solutions to complex problems. The majority of time will be spent at our New Jersey datacenter location, but will require periodic meetings in Etsy's Brooklyn office. The ideal person for this job can balance the thoroughness that comes with managing lots of interconnected equipment with the efficiency needed to move quickly.
About the Job
Setup and maintain server hardware, including networking, console, power, and lights-out management
Racking, inventory all new equipment
Manage request queue on a ticketing system
Monitor and manage inbound and outbound shipments including RMA process of all equipment.
Running and patching network cables
Maintain asset management system
Good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills on a variety of hardware platforms
Must have worked in a web application environment
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Experience with network and infrastructure diagramming tools (Visio, Omnigraffle, GraphViz, etc.)
Ability to work both independently with little supervision as well as in a team environment
Have a thorough understanding of cabinet design and the management of power, space and cooling usage.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs above your head
Nice to Have
Experience with open-source configuration management systems and concepts (Chef, Puppet, Cfengine, etc.)
Experience with asset management systems (Racktables, etc.)
Linux (Redhat and CentOS) experience is a plus
