Under general supervision of the Recreation Specialist, assists with development and implementation of summer day camp programs and activities. Supervises and monitors campers ages 7-12 for safety, participation in camp activities, coaching, interacting, and assisting campers to learn. Must be able to respond immediately in case of emergency, including administering first aid as necessary. Ability to drive a 15 passenger van. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be available June 10, 2013 – August 12, 2013.

Duties and Responsibilities/Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises campers for safety, participation in camp activities, coaching, interacting, and assisting campers to learn and participate in activities.

Assists in planning and implementing activities. Cleans up after activities.

Leads, supervises and conducts summer camp activities.

Must be able to properly supervise children and respond immediately in case of emergency, including administering first aid as necessary.

Ability to get along with customers, kids and co-workers.

Ability to drive 15 passenger van.

Complies with all city policies and procedures, including those defined in the City of McKinney Employee Handbook

Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.

Performs other tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to properly supervise children and respond immediately in case of emergency, including administering first aid as necessary.

Ability to drive 15 passenger van

The ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect.

Build professional relationships with internal staff and customers.

Offer flexibility and adaptability, especially during times of change.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The ability to pass a background and drug screen.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma. Must be available June 10 – August 12. Up to 40 hours per week. Must have a valid driver's license in good standing. Knowledge of administering first aid. Must be available June 10, 2013 to August 12, 2013.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferences include one year of college or equivalent experience and a basic knowledge of childhood development.

Physical Demands/Supplemental:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Certain physical demands are required in performing the essential functions of this job, to include:

Over two-thirds of the time: Ability to exert and/or lift up to ten (10) pounds

Between one-third and two-thirds of the time: Standing; Walking; Talking and Hearing; Ability to exert and/or lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds

Under one-third of the time: Sitting; Stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; Tasting/Smelling; Ability to exert and/or lift up to fifty (50) pounds

Special vision requirements include: close vision; distance vision; peripheral vision and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

There is some exposure to environmental weather conditions, including exposure to outdoor weather conditions (over two-thirds of the time) and working near moving mechanical parts (under one-third of the time).
