Non-exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; no-benefits

Camp Monocacy is a full day camp over the summer developed for children 6-11 years old. This position will supervise and lead groups of children in camp activities, especially active and non-active camp activities that include (but are not limited to) arts and crafts, nature-oriented activities, and sports and games (e.g. kickball, dodgeball, non-competitive games, and board games).

NOTE: Camp Monocacy is offered June 24 - August 9 2013. This is a seven-week program and it is essential that you are available six of the seven weeks as well as available to attend mandatory trainings in June.

Examples of Work:
  • Plan and prepare for activities
  • Lead small group activities (12-15 children) and assist with large group activities
  • Help to open or close the camp daily (including set-up and/or clean-up)
  • Participate in all activities (e.g. arts and crafts, hikes, singing, lunch-time, free play, etc.)
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum age 18 years
  • High school graduation or the equivalent
  • Minimum 1 month of experience leading/aiding groups of children in recreational activities
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to become certified before camp begins
  • Must be a positive role model who projects a positive attitude for campers and employees
  • Willingness and ability to help camp staff in organizing games and daily activities for campers
  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise groups of children in camp activities
  • Ability to effectively plan, follow-up and evaluate the work of camp staff
  • Ability to effectively evaluate emergencies and unexpected situations and promptly respond in an appropriate manner
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to accurately prepare and maintain data, forms and reports
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, children (individually and in large groups) and their family members, and the general public
  • Physical requirements include the ability to move/travel over camp-related terrain in indoor and outdoor areas, to lead and participate in activities as described above, and to load, unload and set-up recreational equipment

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:
  • College degree in a related field
  • Additional experience leading/aiding groups of children in recreational activities
  • Secondary language skills in Sign Language with the ability to provide interpretation services, as needed
Additional Information/Examination Process:
  • Ability to provide own transportation to assigned camp and other sessions/meetings as needed
  • Ability and willingness to participate in planning and training sessions before camp begins
