Dean, Business Division

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under limited supervision, is responsible for directing and coordinating all activities of the Business Division of Pitt Community College. Performs administrative duties in planning, managing, and implementing effective programs. Reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Individual must have a clear understanding of the Pitt Community College mission and philosophy and a commitment to service for the entire college. Set clear goals and objectives for the faculty and staff and provides strong leadership to achieve them. Is responsible for directing and supervising all activities within the Division. Performs such supervisory duties as strategic planning; academic budgets; assigning, reviewing, and planning the work of others; maintaining compliance standards (accreditation); ensuring ongoing development of academic programs, diplomas, and certificates; developing traditional/online/blended/hybrid/weekend courses; coordinating learning assessment activities; allocating personnel; acting on employee and student problems; determining the need for and selection of new employees (faculty/staff appointments); conducting annual evaluations of direct reports; managing a comprehensive marketing and recruiting program; recommending transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions, discharges, and contractual revisions; and evaluates and recommends the need for professional development activities. Is responsible for efficient management of resources, facilities, and equipment. Supervises budget preparation and management. Is responsible for planning and coordinating outreach programs within the community. Personally interacts with representatives of business, industry, secondary schools, colleges, and international markets to offer help, solicit advice, and effectively represent the interests of Pitt Community College. Is responsible for various student-related programs/activities including coordinating programs related to job development and placement of students, determining the retention and direction of students, and resolving student/instructor problems. Guides students in the appropriate direction to meet their individual needs and to achieve their personal goals. Attends committee meetings relative to the Division, as well as the entire College, in order to establish mutual understanding, provide ideas, and provide assistance as needed on issues of concern. Attends professional meetings outside the College.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Master's Degree in business administration or related field from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Prefer two years of business experience; requires five years of experience on the management level; requires five years of related community college experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

SKILLS:
Prior experience in working productively with a cross-section of people from varying backgrounds and experiences;
demonstrated experience in serving the needs of business and industry; experience in community involvement, both professional and civic functions; strong human relations skills; and experience with managing alternative modes of instructional delivery.
