Cambridge College has regional centers in Massachusetts, Georgia, California, Virginia, Tennessee, and Puerto Rico. The College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. More than 6,000 students are served through academic programs that range from bachelor and master's degrees for educators, counselors, managers, and human service providers to a doctoral program in educational leadership. The Dean of the School of Education reports directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs of Cambridge College and is a member of the Deans' Council and the Management Council. As a senior academic officer, the new Dean will fulfill the mission, academic vision, and the strategic plan of the College for the School (http://www.cambridgecollege.edu/academics/education.cfm). This person will lead efforts to maintain compliance with College, state, and national standards and expectations for approved programs and for accreditation. In addition to effectively managing and ensuring the academic quality and integrity of existing programs at all Cambridge College sites, the Dean will oversee the design and implementation of new program initiatives. This person will manage day-to-day activities of the School, including: supervising program chairs, coordinators, and faculty; overseeing administrative operations; and serving as the liaison with internal and external constituencies. The Dean will provide support services in the areas of budget and fiscal management, public and community relations, faculty affairs, general business administration, recruitment and development efforts, and student affairs. Finally, the Dean will lead strategic planning and program implementation among faculty, program chairs, center directors and staff, and she/he will maintain departmental effectiveness, targeted student retention and graduation rates, and high quality student outcomes.
Essential candidate qualifications include: an earned terminal degree in Education or closely related field with at least 7-10 years experience in responsible higher education leadership positions at a regionally-accredited institution that includes experience as dean of an education college or school; academic credentials for rank at associate or full professor; extensive experience as an administrator for teacher education programs at the master's and doctoral levels; experience in managing people in complex organizational settings; knowledge of TEAC requirements and experience with national, state and/or local professional organizations; commitment to social justice leadership in professional preparation programs, and demonstrable support of shared governance practices. The successful candidate will have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills, as well as a keen understanding of the adult teaching and learning model.
