Your daily responsibilities include:
The duties and responsibilities of a Deckhand of a Untied States documented vessel are governed by all pertinent and applicable laws, regulations, governmental directives and accepted marine and legal precedents.
Carry out departure and mooring duties as assigned, including taking in all lines and cables securing the vessel to the dock.
Carry out vessel and equipment cleaning, and maintenance. Ensure that passenger areas are kept clean.
Is thoroughly familiar with assigned duties and stations for all drills and emergencies.
Ensure passenger safety at all times and report any unsafe condition or hazardous situation to higher authority. Ensure that all personal flotation devices are properly stowed and all other life saving apparatus and/or equipment is in its proper place and ready for deployment or readily available.
Learn and understand basic radio phraseology, FCC rules and requirements, and the company use of Marine Band VHF channel 9 for marine crew communications.
Participate in all U.S. Coast Guard required drills. Understand and apply the required duties assigned on the Station Bill.
Comply with company policies; all state and federal regulations; and internal controls as it relates to this position.
Employees may be required to perform reasonable duties outside of their normal job description where, in the Company’s judgment it is necessary in the interest of efficiency, productivity or improved guest relations and service.

To be successful in this position it will require the following skill set:

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
One to three months related experience and/or training
Ability to read and interpret documents such as Code of Federal Regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees or organizations.
Know and understand the need for teamwork in dealing with passengers in emergency situations and be able to substitute in any required position in case of incapacitation of another crew member or due to the inaccessibility of a crew member due to an emergency in progress. Keep radio communication to a minimum during these situations.
Within one year of employment obtain a basic First Aid and CPR certificate of training.
Within two months be qualified in the use of all fire and lifesaving apparatus and its means of deployment.
Within three months be qualified in the use of all fire fighting equipment and procedures for containment and extinguishment of all possible scenarios aboard the vessel.
The employee must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
