Exempt; part-time; 20 hours per week; Monday – Friday; varied hours during normal business hours (8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.); pro-rated benefits

This professional position is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive resident care of Montevue Assisted living residents. Supervision is received from the Montevue Nursing Supervisor.

Examples of Work:
  • Review with the Assisted Living Manager (ALM) the Health Care Practitioner Form of all potential residents for accuracy, completeness, and ability to safely care for the resident
  • Complete pre move-in assessment of new residents; conduct ongoing resident assessments as necessary for level of care decisions
  • Within 14 days of a new resident’s admission: assess the resident, review the resident’s current medical profile, including all prescription and non-prescription medications and make appropriate recommendations to the ALM
  • Assess the Medication Technician’s ability to administer medications to that resident, or the resident’s ability to self-administer medications
  • Provide direct oversight of Medication Technician (MT) program: Assist in conducting MT training course and re-certification training as needed; monitor and assess on-going MT job performance ; document performance on the Medication Observation checklist every 30 or as needed
  • At least every 90 days reassess residents and the medications of all residents who are capable of self-administering, or who self-administer with reminders, supervision, or physical assistance to determine their continued ability to self-medicate
  • Perform on-site reviews every 45 days for all residents who require that medications be administered by non-licensed personnel. This review shall include reviews of the Physicians’ Order Sheet, the Medication Administration Record, an assessment of the resident and the non-licensed person’s continued ability to administer medications
  • Be available to the ALM to answer questions concerning resident medical issues and/or medication issues
  • Conduct in-services as appropriate
  • Consult with families, physicians and pharmacy personnel as requested
  • Review resident discharge plans and assist in preparing those plans
  • Complete various required forms such as medical pre-authorizations
  • Participate in the monthly QI meeting related to nursing practices
  • Collaborate with staff members to continually monitor resident service needs; establish service plans and update as needed
  • Complete the Health Care Practitioner Form upon a residents return from the hospital or nursing home and or a change in condition
  • Assumes the role of the alternate ALM and completes the ALM assessment form along with the scoring tool to determine a resident’s level of care

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing work experience, which must include conducting resident assessments
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Current RN license issued by the Maryland State Board of Nurse Examiners
  • Current certification as RN Case Manager / Delegating Nurse in Assisted Living, issued by a Maryland accredited institution (attach copy of this certificate to the County Employment Application form) or able to obtain certification within 6 month probationary period.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Knowledge of provisions of the State Nurse Practice Act in order to recognize the legal aspects of nursing
  • Knowledge of current nursing methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of Maryland Assisted Living Regulations
  • Ability to effectively supervise and direct the work of others
  • Ability to effectively perform duties requiring substantial specialized judgment and skill in the observation, care and counsel of all residents; in the promotion of health and the prevention of illness; and in appropriate response to crisis/emergency situations which may arise
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co?workers, other medical professionals, residents and their family members and the general public
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills including the ability to encourage and assist residents and others facing medical situations and dealing with complex medical terms, as well as the ability to accurately compile and maintain detailed medical notes and resident records
  • Physical requirements include the ability to move/carry medical equipment as needed; to lift/move and assist residents as needed; to perform other duties as listed above
