Drives truck over established route to customer locations. Follows company policies and DOT restrictions and documentation procedures. Demonstrates courteous, professional, and reliable behavior at customer locations. Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Must be able to pass pre-hire drug screen, DOT physical, credit check, driving record review, criminal background check, and driving test.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Transport Duties

  • Drives truck to customer locations; reads maps and follows written and verbal geographic directions as needed
  • Adheres to DOT-mandated weight and hours-of-service regulations
  • Adheres to Monarch, EF Transit, and customer rules, regulations, and safety procedures for driving, lifting, loading, and equipment usage; adheres to procedures in case of injury, accident, or theft
Administrative Duties

  • Reviews assigned route and identifies destinations; assesses inventory on truck for accuracy and proper loading
  • Ensures load records (i.e., bill of lading) are accurate and available for inspection; provides or obtains documentation from customer upon delivery
  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspection of truck to ensure safe and proper functioning; records damage in equipment or vehicle condition; completes logs, trip reports, and other EF Transit or DOT-mandated record-keeping requirements
  • Provides basic truck maintenance (i.e., refuels, cleans interior/exterior, sweeps truck of unwanted debris, ensures basic repairs)
  • Records sales or deliveries information on daily sales or delivery record
  • Issues or obtains customer signature on receipt for pickup or delivery
Customer Service

  • Places stock on shelves or racks with proper rotation
  • Collects money from customers, makes change, and records transaction on customer receipt
  • Collects empty containers or rejected or unsold merchandise and loads it in the truck
  • Listens to and resolves service complaints and reports any issues they have
Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1–3 months of related experience
  • Class A commercial driver's license
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Forklift certification
  • Sales permit
Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English language
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using a calculator

Physical Demands

While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to lift/carry an average of 50 lbs. (e.g., bulkhead, dunnage) on a frequent basis. The employee is regularly required to use physical strength to pull pins/slide tandems. The employee is required to sit for long periods of time and to climb in and out of trucks. Additional physical demands that the employee is required to engage in on a regular basis are: standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, and grasping.

Working Conditions

While performing duties of this job, the employee must be able to perform manual tasks in varying conditions, including rain, snow, and excessive heat or cold. The employee is required to maneuver a truck and engage in defensive driving in varying weather and traffic conditions. The employee is required to maintain alertness over long periods of monotonous conditions, including night or daytime shifts.
