Salary Range: $ 14.00 - $18.00 / hour
Job Status: Part-time; Hourly; Non-exempt
To provide chair side assistance to a dentist; Under close supervision, take digital x-rays, and to do other work as required.
Collect and record a patients health history;
Take digital dental x-rays;
Provide chair side assistance to the dentist;
Prepare and arrange dental instruments, equipment, and medication prior to scheduled appointment;
Prepare patients for treatment and examination;
Prepare local anesthetic syringes for the dentist;
Assist dentist with needed instruments from the tray;
Communicate with patients during dental procedures;
Clean and sterilize instruments;
Perform post-operative cleanup as needed;
Instruct patients in proper practices of dental hygiene as needed;
Prepare dental material, composite, cements, impression materials etc.;
Update dental charting in EMR system for each patient;
Other relevant duties as assigned.
TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES
Education: Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.
Experience: One year of experience providing chair side dental assistance; Completion of a recognized curriculum for dental assistants may be substituted for the required experience.
Knowledge: Must have good knowledge of:
Dental assistant procedures;
Principles and methods of sterilization;
Proper care and use of dental instruments, equipment, and materials.
Valid certificate of compliance issued by the California State Board of Dental Examiners indicating successful completion of an examination in radiation safety; or completion of an American Dental Association or California State Board of Dental Examiners certified course in principles of Radiation Safety.
Ability to take digital dental x-rays;
Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written directions;
Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Work efficiently and accurately in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities;
Interface effectively in a team environment with agency staff and volunteers;
Handle crisis and stressful situations in an effective, calm and respectful manner;
Proficient in verbal and written use of English grammar;
Familiar with computer programs and ability to learn and use the EMR system in house.
