Borgess Medical Center currently has an opening for a part time Department Secretary. This position works 3 - eight hour shifts, variable days, Monday - Friday, no weekends or holidays.
Under general supervision, performs modestly complex secretarial duties including typing non-routine correspondence, tables and forms. Drafts brief explanatory memoranda or correspondence, recurring reports, and proofreads and edits all materials for accuracy and clarity. Work is standardized but incumbents are expected to use discretion and judgment when screening visitors and telephone calls, editing materials and organizing own workload to meet established priorities.
Ability to proof and edit correspondence, tables, forms and other documentations for punctuation, spelling, grammar and typographical errors as well as draft routine correspondence and maintain record keeping and filing systems at a level normally acquired through completion of high school.
Ability to type forms, correspondence, reports and tables from rough draft or dictation at a level normally acquired through completion of up to six months course work in word processing, which can be obtained in high school.
Approximately one to two years’ progressively more responsible related work experience necessary in order to gain understanding of departmental policies, procedures and operations and to assume moderately complex administrative duties such as arranging meetings and conferences, and answering questions from callers and visitors.
Analytical skills necessary to handle non-routine, moderately complex administrative details.
Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of internal callers and visitors, and a limited numbers of external contacts.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when filing, typing and proofing materials.
Attends department meetings.
High school graduate or GED.
