Rhodes College invites applications for a Departmental Assistant which processes assigned materials for the Biology department and faculty members (including but not limited to correspondence, memoranda, scholarly articles, bibliographies and class materials). Includes proof-reading and editing tasks, for which effective skills in regard to proper spelling, punctuation, alphabetization and grammar are essential. Assists the Health Professions Advisor in record keeping and in processing letters of recommendations and other correspondence. This requires strong attention to detail and tight adherence to deadlines. Performs general receptionist duties, handles incoming and outgoing communications for the Biology department in accordance with standard operating procedures. Operates and maintains a variety of office equipment including personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators and scanners. Utilizes appropriate software on the personal computer as designated by the Biology department
High school diploma or GED required; some college or business school preferred. Minimum three years of office administration experience. Proficiency with MS Office required, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Proficiency with web applications preferred. Excellent communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to work effectively and efficiently with faculty, staff and students. Demonstrated ability to organize numerous projects, consistently meet deadlines, exercise professional judgment and attention to detail, and solve problems creatively.
