Under general supervision, performs responsible administrative and supervisory work assisting in planning, organizing and directing an effective and comprehensive assessment program for the City. Work involves supervising Appraisers, and assisting and participating in assessments of land parcels and buildings; preparing various statistical reports; and assisting in planning and budgeting recommendations to assist the Assessor in overseeing and directing departmental operations; and assisting taxpayers and the general public with inquiries pertaining to appraisals and assessment procedures. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks. Employee must also exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with taxpayers, public officials and the general public. Reports to the Assessor.
Minimum Education and Training
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, Economics or related field and three to five years of experience in real estate appraisal to include residential, some commercial and industrial appraisals, including supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required skills knowledge and abilities. Requires a valid driver’s license.
Must possess, at a minimum, a Virginia State License from the Real Estate Board for: Certified General or Certified Residential or must have the ability to obtain through reciprocity a valid equivalent license in Virginia within 90 days of employment; or an International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) designation: RES (Residential Evaluation Specialist), CAE (Certified Assessment Evaluator), or AAS (Assessment Administration Specialist).
