DC Prep is looking for a highly dedicated and experienced educator to serve as our Deputy Chief Academic Officer in the Home Office. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of success in developing and implementing strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of learning needs, at least three years of prior experience in an adult leadership position such as principal, head of school or other senior school leadership position and a “whatever it takes” attitude to ensure that all students succeed at a high level.

The Deputy Chief Academic Officer (CAO) will play a critical role in supporting and driving student achievement at DC Prep. This person will work with the Chief Academic Officer to provide leadership, vision and strategic direction for curriculum, instruction and assessment at DC Prep campuses. The Deputy CAO will also work with principals to ensure that each teacher executes the DC Prep Way, bringing urgency, rigor, preparation and joy to the classroom each day. In addition, the Deputy CAO will collaborate with other members of the Home Office, particularly the Academic and Talent Teams, to support the campuses and develop a pipeline of effective leaders. Following a period of 12-24 months of acclimation to DC Prep’s academic and culture programs, and assuming strong performance in the role, the Deputy CAO will assume the role of co-CAO, directly overseeing a small group of DC Prep schools. In this role, this person will work in direct collaboration with the current CAO to support and supervise school leaders, school leadership teams, and the DC Prep academic program.

Collaborate with the Chief Academic Officer and principals to refine, articulate and continuously improve the DC Prep educational model, including standards, curriculum maps, assessments and professional development
Foster a results-oriented, productive environment of accountability at the school campuses
Strengthen alignment of the DC Prep model across campuses
Provide professional development and instructional coaching to teachers and leaders
Work with the Talent Team to develop and facilitate trainings for current principals as well as emerging leaders
Principal and
Leader Coaching
Ensure that principals set extremely high expectations and run their schools in accordance with the DC Prep commitment to excellence
Work with principals and their leadership teams to develop school academic goals
Directly coach principals, leadership teams, and emerging leaders on key areas of growth
Review school data with principals to determine strengths and areas of growth. Problem solve ways to address areas of growth with principal
Work with principals to provide professional development priorities for the year
Provide on-going feedback and support
Hold leaders accountable for results at their school
Academic
Team Leadership
Manage Home Office Academic Team performance and campus-based collaboration
Provide feedback and coaching to team members on strengths, areas of growth and overall performance
Work with team to develop monthly and yearly priorities that are aligned with campus-specific and organization-wide goals
Additional
Duties
Participate in working groups of leaders and teachers to plan, problem solve, and support one another on an ongoing basis
Act as a resource in challenging situations with parents, students and/or staff
Attend and participate in staff and other school activities and meetings as appropriate
Liaise with other Home Office staff in carrying out organizational goals as necessary
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND
WORK EXPERIENCE
Outstanding track record as educational leader with proven results
Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in an urban
school community as a principal, assistant principal or senior level leader
Familiarity with urban elementary and middle school students, with particular experience with the developmental and social nuances of preschool through 8 th graders
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Master’s degree in educational administration, guidance, counseling or related field, preferred
