Assists in supervising the Dental Program for the Bristol Bay Service Area, which includes but is not limited to dental support for the hospital, the dental clinic, and community/village dental support. Performs professional work in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and deformities of the teeth, jaws, organs of the mouth and other structures and connective tissues associated with the oral cavity and the masticatory system.
D.D.S. or D.M.D. Degree.
Current verifiable license to practice in and U.S. State or Territory. Must obtain State of Alaska license within one year of hire (if not PHS Commissioned Officer).
GPR certificate and four (4) additional years of professional practice experience, or eight (8) years professional experience is desired.
Provides dental health services to the Bristol Bay Area population in accordance with Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation policies.
Advises the Chief Dental Officer on all matters pertaining to oral health.
Develops, implements, and evaluates quality and quantity of the region’s dental program and resources through monitoring the Dental GPRA requirements, dental field trip reports, IHS Dental Data Program printouts, and miscellaneous reports from the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation.
Participates in the administration of an ongoing oral disease prevention program.
Provides current and accepted dental treatment procedures to all patients including pediatric dental patients.
Mentors career development activities of the dental staff.
Provides educational and administrative services as requested to other health care professionals, schools, civic groups, etc.
Acknowledges all communications and submits required reports and evaluations.
Assists in developing departmental budget submissions to align with the BBAHC strategy map.
Oversees grant management to ensure grant requirements are met, appropriately expend grant funds, and timely submit interim and final grant reports.
Mentors, coaches, and counsels staff to develop excellent contribution to the BBAHC mission and assist in understanding the individual’s role in the strategic plan. Fully documents staff issues. Resolves staff issues at the lowest level possible. Keeps supervisor aware of staff issues. Develops and timely submits annual staff performance evaluations aligned to the BBAHC strategy map.
Maintains full compliance with the laws, regulations, grant terms, and BBAHC policies pertinent to the department. Ensures department activities meet all applicable accrediting body standards and CMS Conditions of Participation. Actively avoids fraud, waste, and abuse. Seeks methods and activities to enhance BBAHC revenues.
Participates in departmental Performance Improvement initiatives. Tracks and reports accomplishments. Monitors Dental Quality Calendar activities.
Ensures department procedures consistently provide excellent dental patient care.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
