The Office of the Long Beach City Auditor (OCA) is currently recruiting for the position of Deputy City Auditor. Our Office provides a variety of audit and review services, including contract and revenue audits, operational and internal control reviews, and fraud investigations.
The Deputy City Auditor will be part of the Executive Team and a leader and role model in the Office. This includes participation in strategic discussions regarding audit projects, process improvements, and staffing considerations. The Deputy will be responsible for managing multiple audits in compliance with professional standards, including development of audit objectives, scope and audit programs. Leading an audit project, the Deputy would be expected to analyze complex situations and assumptions, assess the quality of methods used, formulate workable solutions, and provide recommended courses of action. The results of this process must be clearly communicated and defensible. The Deputy will also be responsible for the preparation of the final report, which should be easily understood, convincing, and focused on concise description of issues, impact of those issues and potential resolutions. Due to the size of the office, the candidate should not be adverse to performing fieldwork when needed. In addition, the Deputy will oversee several contract audits by coordinating scope, department communication, and final reporting. Approval of City wire transfers is also required. Developing and maintaining productive relationships with auditee management and OCA staff is critical.
Desired education, experience and skills include an undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or related field. Should also hold an applicable professional certification and have experience as an Audit Manager. Government experience is preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products, have knowledge of large financial software systems, and be able to generate ad hoc data reports. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Starting salary range is $95,000 - $110,000, depending on qualifications.
