The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Mecklenburg County, seeks an individual to serve in the position of deputy clerk in the legal system of North Carolina by processing, controlling and maintaining documentation of court cases. As a deputy clerk, you may perform a variety of duties including: perform customer service for the public at the transaction counter windows; file lawsuits and other documents; assist the public with file review and retrieval; file paperwork into court files; certify court records; and process court documents as required. This position may also work in the courtroom managing the daily docket and preparing court ordered documents as directed. Courtroom work involves recording court proceedings, taking minutes, and keeping an evidence log.

New hires may be paid above the minimum rate if they have prior experience in the Clerk's Office.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Individuals most suited for Deputy Clerk positions possess general office and computer skills, are team players with an ability to work under pressure, and have an ability to communicate effectively with the general public and other government agencies. Must be able to accurately type 35-40 wpm.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 18 years of age. Mecklenburg County residents preferred.

Management prefers candidates with a two (2) or four (4) year degree with prior experience working in the court system or law office. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of MS Word and Excel, an ability to learn computer programs, and quickly become familiar with all office procedures and protocols. The ability to follow oral and written instructions and work quickly and with accuracy in a high volume, fast-paced work environment is also desired. This position requires a lot of public interaction and strong customer sevice skills. Your cover letter should address your strengths and weaknesses when interacting with the public.
