Provides fire and life safety services to faculty, staff, students and visitors by ensuring applicable safety codes, policies and procedures are implemented and enforced.

Job Duties:

Conducts semi-annual fire extinguisher and fire hose inspections and maintenance; maintains documentation of inspections.

Monitors annual inspections and conducts testing of fixed fire protection equipment, such as kitchen hood systems, fire pumps, fire hydrants and sprinkler systems.

Administers the Welding, Cutting and Dust Production Permit Program, which includes issuing permits and conducting site inspections.

Inspects areas for safety violations, enforces safety policies and procedures, issues access and egress violations, and checks and issues hazard reports of violations detected.

Provides information to faculty and staff concerning the installation of fire protection equipment.

Investigates reports and responds to incidents.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Additional Posting Information
Pay Rate: $17.95 an hour

Must have a Fire Fighter Basic Certification through Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Inspector certification preferred through TCFP .

Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver’s license.

Must pass a Criminal History and valid TX Driver’s License check prior to an interview.

UHDPS requires all applicants to complete the criminal history fields on their application.

Applicants with incomplete criminal history fields will not be considered for a position.
