BASIC FUNCTION :

The Design Coder works with graphic designers on the Creative Services Team in the Enrollment Management Division to give web life to our college admissions campaigns. Works as part of a team on client work and special projects and is the resident code expert by conducting research to keep our best practices current. This person thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment that values teamwork and initiating successful outcomes for our clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists design team with the creation of HTML/CSS templates for emails, landing pages and online applications
  • Creates and maintains processes and quality checklists related to HTML/CSS components
  • Works with department managers and development staff to implement and improve services
  • Educates developers on how the design team is using templates to make them more effective and user-friendly
  • Assists designers with daily HTML/CSS trouble-shooting needs
  • Actively researches new industry standards and formulates recommendations to be implemented by the design team


  • QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Licenses/Certifications and Work Experience:

    Required:
    • AAS degree or higher in Web Technology, a related field, or a portfolio that demonstrates equivalent training or experience
    • Strong knowledge of HTML, XHTML and CSS
    • Experience with Java, PHP, forms and multi-media integration preferred
    • Experience with Flash and Action Scripting a plus
    • Experience testing web components for usability
    • Strong understanding of cross-browser compatibility, mobile device rendering and web best-practices
    • Ability to trouble-shoot issues independently
    • Willingness to assist and train designers on HTML/CSS when needed
    • Should be business-minded with strong communication skills / Ability to communicate effectively via phone and through e-mail
    • Must be detail-oriented and able to create/follow processes and quality checklists regularly
    • Infrequent light physical effort required.
    • Must be able to work in an environment where the noise level is moderate

    Preferred:
    • Minimum 2-3 years professional experience
    • Experience with pre-press and print production
    • Familiarity with JavaScript and PHP
    • Proficient in Flash design, including some action script
    • Experience working in or with the higher education industry
