The Engineer conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop designs for products, including the design, FEA, detailing, creation of sales drawings and coding of sales orders. This includes general upkeep of detail drawings, sales drawings, and engineering specification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other projects and duties may be assigned.
Make product sales presentations and visits to target customers demonstrating the advantages of the engineered products.
Develops and maintains a target customer activity plan that includes opportunities, quotes, orders, and projects at key customers.
Performs job site installation and product evaluation visits.
Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on market and industry knowledge, product application knowledge and other sources.
Makes outbound lead follow-up calls to potential and existing customers in person, by telephone and e-mail to qualify leads and sell products and services.
Handles inbound sales leads to convert calls into sales and overcomes technical and business objections of prospective customers.
Provides product demonstrations to qualified customers on request. Emphasizes engineered features and advantages, quotes prices and credit terms, and prepares sales order for orders obtained.
Maintains and follows up with the factory orders. Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm’s production and delivery schedules.
Coordinates customer training, builds and maintains customer relationships.
Prepares reports of business transactions, enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer data base.
Works with outside sales representative to keep account activities and literature up to date.
Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
Travels to and attends trade shows.
Completes proposal drawings and design, negotiates with the customer and finalizes the order.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
B.S. or B.A. (Bachelor’s Degree) or equivalent from a four-year accredited college or university in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology) or other technical discipline; two – five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publications that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
