Performs professional engineering work to develop, monitor, and coordinate multiple water, wastewater, and stormwater engineering functions for the Water Department.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews and interprets water, wastewater, and stormwater plans submitted for new system infrastructure and development projects; develops and maintains computer programs for water distribution systems, wastewater collections systems; provides technical support for water department master planning projects; provides hydraulic analysis and demand analysis for related departmental purposes; reviews, evaluates and recommends resolution of water, sanitary and storm drainage engineering problems; provides engineering support to the water operations and field inspection divisions; reviews, evaluates and revises engineering plans and specifications; participates in preparation of cost estimates; meets and coordinates with other departments, consultants, government agencies and utility companies; investigates complaints and recommends corrective action; collects and analyzes engineering data; and performs additional duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or directly related field.
Experience: At least 4 years progressively responsible professional engineering work in assigned function.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of current engineering principles and practices applicable to assigned construction and design function; computer programming languages; computer software including spreadsheets, graphics, and database applications.
Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens; present ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form; ability to review, correct and recommend solutions to complex engineering plans.
Skills: Skill in the use of engineering instruments and equipment including personal computer and related software.
Licenses, Certificates or Equipment Required: Registration as an Engineer-In-Training with the State of Colorado required. Colorado driver's license with a good driving history.
This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
Physical Demands: Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying; may require some walking and standing for field inspections; vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard; may require foot/eye coordination to operate motor vehicle for field inspections; frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.
Work Environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment; may perform some outdoor work for field inspections.
