BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

The Interactive Designer must [ppssess three years' design experience. S/he must have strong knowledge of InDesign, Quark, Photoshop and Illustrator with a penchant for design and art with a desire to make beautiful things with a computer box. A diploma or certificate in an art background/Design applicable field is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Interactive Designer should have a sensibility for design layout for the modern age comprised of Web, Tablet, Mobile and Social properties. Print Design Skills are but a bonus. If you don’t mind doing a little PowerPoint Design work on occasion (and do it well) you will be everyone’s favorite designer around the office and we will reward you with your very own custom #hashtag. You must be able to manipulate images in Photoshop seamlessly, create custom icons and illustrations in Illustrator and understand the difference between Design and Art and where both fit into your day to day role. Video production knowledge and or Motion Design talent is applauded and favorable. You must possess good interpersonal and communication skills. You must be open minded, take direction well and learn to speak up if you have an idea you think is worthwhile, whether it is or not. A Designer must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to adapt to new conditions, assignments and deadlines, with a smile.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Interactive Designer is responsible for supporting the Senior Designers, Art Directors and Creative Directors in day-to-day activities. As an Interactive Designer your day-to-day responsibilities will require you to:
  • Be awesome
  • Work on a Mac
  • Spell and punctuate appropriately in your day to day mockups and emails
  • Produce presentation templates and custom imagery as needed
  • Have a solid understanding of basic principles of design, layout and color and ability to apply these to digital layouts
  • Thinking through the User Experience and always pushing to streamline, simplify and optimize User Flow for Digital Experiences
  • Approaches each project expecting to impress no matter how boring the task
  • Shows creative thinking for our clients
  • Communicates and learns how to present effectively
  • Participates in creative brainstorms
  • Meets project deadlines
  • Stay abreast in current technology
  • Is proficient with Photoshop, Illustrator, and sometimes PowerPoint
  • Contributes effectively to your own as well as your co-worker’s performance appraisal process
  • Engage in team-building activities and office or practice wide activities
  • Work with interns as needed to delegate tasks appropriately
  • Work well as a part of a team; collaborates to maximize results
  • Proactively and effectively manage own time
  • Learn and understand department billing process
  • Comply with company financial management policies and procedures
  • Compute timesheets and expense reports in a timely manner
  • Work within established account budget parameters and notify supervisor of any potential cost overruns

MEASURING PROGRESS:

An Interactive Designer will be measured by their effectiveness at supporting the Directors, working towards Sr. Designer responsibilities, when s/he demonstrates the following:
  • Under minimal supervision, has a complete understanding of the job tasks and ability to perform easily
  • Has a solid understanding of design department procedures/systems and ability to implement
  • Has increased involvement in content development and larger projects
  • Has a good working relationship with team and shows good judgment with other employees
  • Has strong design skills on a wide range of projects; able to complete targeted projects within deadline
  • Displays solid verbal and written communication skills and makes good use of informal and formal communication
  • Demonstrates initiative, takes ownership of projects and sees them to their completion
  • Exhibits good judgment when working with team members, other Edelman employees and vendors
  • Exhibits consistent progress in day-to-day responsibilities
  • Shows analytical and strategic planning skills
