NWF is currently seeking a Designer to contribute to the design and production or assigned articles and departments in 10 issues per year of

Ranger Rick

magazine as well as four issues (and eight updates) of the digital magazine,

Ranger Rick’s Tree House

. This position manages the design and production of 10 issues of Ranger Rick’s Educators’ Guide. The Designer will also handle design and production of Web features, curriculum materials, and promotional posters and brochures as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ranger Rick Print Magazine

Design magazine layouts and produce incidental art (ex: headlines, logos, maps, diagrams, calendars, recipes). Follow layouts through production stages, making adjustments as needed.

Ranger Rick’s Tree House Interactive Magazine

Design/refine print magazine layouts to accommodate the needs of the interactive version. Produce incidental art (ex: headlines, logos, maps, diagrams, calendars, recipes). Follow layouts through production and content management system, making adjustments as needed.

Ranger Rick Educator’s Guide

Design monthly educator’s guide to complement Ranger Rick magazine. Work with the curriculum specialist to plan page layouts, assign or create illustrations as necessary, prepare files for online publication.

Education Program Promotional and Educational Materials

Design and manage production of assigned curriculum materials, and promotional posters and brochures, as needed and time permits. (Note: Some of these products may be electronic.)

Kids Section of NWF Website

At Ranger Rick Editor’s discretion, design and illustrate graphics for age-appropriate Web pages. Provide file conversion service on some existing materials.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 2 years experience working in graphic design and/or art direction.

SKILLS:
Competent in using InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other graphic software.

Good ability to conceptualize effective design and illustrations for children. This includes design and illustrations for print media as well as for electronic media (e.g., Web and applications).

Sophisticated visual type and design sense.
