G4S Youth Services, LLC has an immediate job opportunity for a Detention Officer in Nashville, TN . In this position, you will manage the general conduct and behavior of detainees while maintaining a disciplined, clean, and safe environment. You will also coordinate transportation and prepare detainees for all outside appointments.
Coordinates with case managers and commitment managers for secure transport of detainees to court hearings, commitment programs, medical health appointments, and all other outside facility locations at scheduled times
Maintains an orderly disciplined environment on the shift while representing professionalism
Prepares detainees for admission, release and court appearances outside the facility
Prepares all written reports and documentation as required by Facility Operating Procedures
Ensures facility is maintained in a clean and safe condition at all times
Maintains the security of the facility
Maintains commitment packets on youth, assists detention review specialist with the release list.
Tracks non-delinquent admission.
Administers the point system in a fair and equitable manner and counsels individually with disruptive detainee
Uses the option of confinement only as a last resort when a youth is beyond control
Restrains violent detainee using only approved Use of Force with the assistance of another member when possible
The Ideal Candidate: Education, Licenses and Certifications Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to understand and adhere to policies, procedures, and guidelines
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
Ability to understand current ACA Accreditation Standards
Ability to develop effective working relationships with youths
Ability and skill to use Crisis Intervention Techniques
Ability to read, understand and apply policies, rules and procedures
Ability to intervene physically on out-of-control youths

Must be at least 21 years of age or the minimun required by the state.

Physical Requirements and Environment
Talking: Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey details or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly
Hearing and Vision: Ability to perceive the nature of sounds with no less than 40 dB loss at Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable employees to complete clerical tasks, and observe youth.
Dexterity: Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of an object such as size, shape, and temperature. Movements frequently and regularly required using wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Physical Strength: Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Position is mostly standing and employee must be able to physically perform escalation matrix as defined in Protective Action Response. This may include, but is not limited to all countermoves and restraint techniques. Employee may be subject to temperature changes, but the employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside. Language: Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and ability to communicate in complex sentences using normal word order with present and past tenses.
Processing and Reasoning: Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as in verbal and physical confrontations. Must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions and noise. Ability to assist youth with problem solving and maintaining self-control in volatile situations.
