We°re looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our growing DevOps and Reliability Team. The ideal candidate will be an API junkie that has hands-on experience developing operational based tools, supporting Linux based open-source infrastructure systems with an eye on automation, preferably in support of highly available web and mobile applications. Most importantly, the right individual will be highly motivated, with a positive, “can-do ” attitude and a passion for delivering technical solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities of the DevOps Engineer include: • Operating and maintaining Blackboards Mobile ’s application ecosystem, cloud and physical Infrastructure • Developing tools to improve efficiency of operational tasks • Participate in product development • Leveraging current and cutting edge technologies while testing bleeding edge technologies for future use • Supporting and building upon system automation, deployment, and continuous integration tools • Developing self healing tools that are monitor driven • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to mobile applications development and deployment • Creating and maintaining documentation • Participating in 24/7 on-call rotation SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS: Reporting to the Senior DevOps and Relability Manager for project direction and mentoring, the DevOps Engineer will serve as a critical contributor to the ongoing success of Blackboard Mobile. The key qualifications for this role are: REQUIREMENTS: • Self-starter, desire to thrive in a fast-paced environment • 3+ years experience with developing in two or more languages (Ruby, Java, PHP, etc) • 2+ years experience administering Linux-based systems (CentOS, RHEL, Ubuntu) • Experience with open source technologies and the desire to give back to the community • Experience with relational (MySQL and Postgres) and/or non-relational (MongoDB) database technologies • Experience completing a full development lifecycle • Experience developing Ops related tools • Experience with continuous integration tools (Bamboo, Jenkins, etc) • Experience with system automation and deployment tools (Chef, Ansible, Capistrano, etc) • Experience troubleshooting and resolving application and system related issues • Excellent communication skills, capable of conducting technical discussions in English DESIRED: • Previous work experience in a start-up environment • Bachelor°s degree in Engineering preferred, but proven industry experience without a degree will still be considered • Experience using and administering software version control systems (SVN, Git, etc.) • Experience with synchronous and asynchronous queuing systems (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc) • Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (Confluence, JIRA, etc.) • Hands on experience administering and supporting an environment with multiple servers and roles (50+ servers) • Experience in configuring and administering LAMP stack environments • Experience performing and automating systems maintenance tasks using open source tools • Solid understanding of current web and internet technologies like Apache, Tomcat, Nginx, Memcache, Varnish, CDN, Dynamic DNS Who We Are: Blackboard Mobile is a division of Blackboard Inc., a global leader in enterprise technology and innovative solutions that improves the experience of millions of students and faculty for each of our client institutions around the world, every day.
