DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE
The American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island is seeking a Development & Communications Associate. The duties for this position include assisting with various fundraising, membership recruitment and development activities; database management; communications and educational activities, including website management and email communications with supporters; and related organizational and administrative tasks. Applicants must be committed to the mission of the ACLU and have strong organizational, communications, administrative and computer skills.
Position Overview and Functions: The Development & Communications Associate will help coordinate fundraising efforts for the organization, assist with the organization’s communications programs, and expand outreach and member recruitment programs. Because the organization communicates in a way that garners support for our mission, there is natural overlap between these areas and the skills required. The Associate reports directly to the Executive Director, but also works as directed with other staff.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Fundraising Coordination . Coordinate and provide administrative support for the organization’s campaigns to raise gifts from supporters, attorneys, and major donors by assisting in the preparation of materials for solicitors and donors; organizing mailings and solicitations; drafting correspondence and fundraising reports; and providing other support for campaigns, including assisting the Executive Director with the development work of the Board of Directors.
Membership . Serve as a liaison between the ACLU’s members and the organization. Develop and implement strategies to obtain, cultivate and retain ACLU members. Develop and retain a volunteer base with diverse interests and skills.
Public Education . Develop and coordinate special educational projects and activities. Oversee production of monthly cable access television program. Prepare membership newsletter and write and publish educational brochures. Maintain media contact lists and assist in miscellaneous public relations activities.
Website and Social Media Management . Maintain and expand use of the Affiliate’s web site (experience using Expression Engine is helpful but not required) and other online social media such as Facebook and YouTube. Establish and maintain email contact with members and other interested supporters for communication and advocacy purposes.
Events . Assist in creating, coordinating and publicizing membership, donor and educational events, and events with other communities in which the ACLU works.
Donor Relations . Acknowledge contributions and assist in providing high-quality service to members, supporters, and potential supporters through communication.
Reports and Record-Keeping . Input and maintain confidential membership and fundraising information and ensure the accuracy and integrity of ACLU member database.
Other : Assist with miscellaneous administrative tasks as assigned by the executive director, including troubleshooting technical issues relating to email, donations, and other online services.
Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
