The Development Assistant will coordinate all of the logistical details for a multi-million dollar campaign, including processing of pledges and keeping track of contributions, inputting lists and data for numerous fundraising events, and providing support for the fundraising professionals. The candidate must be exceptionally organized and proficient in computer skills as well as possess good people skills.

  • Prepare and write solicitation letters to donors, complete mail merges, maintain donor records, process pledges, and prepare statements.
  • Process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondence.
  • Update and correct database records and spreadsheets.
  • Conduct research on prospective sources of revenue, including major gift prospects, foundations, and dinner honorees.
  • Coordinate productions and mailing of spring and year-end appeal letters.
  • Maintain guest lists, gather and prepare registration materials and other duties as assigned for fund-raising events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.
Possible performance measures:
  • Number of donations processed and acknowledged within each week.
  • Success in maintaining accuracy of database records.
  • Accuracy of fundraising spreadsheets.
  • Success in coordinating the production of mail appeals.
  • Success in maintaining donor hard copy files.
Qualifications and Skill Set:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • A minimum of two years' experience in an administrative position, preferably in a not-for-profit development office
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience using Raiser's Edge preferred
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work is essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to the mission of AJC
