DC Central Kitchen seeks a Development Associate to join our dynamic team and support our mission of using food as a tool to strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities. Fundraising is vital to DCCK’s mission-driven programs. The Development Associate is an all-around, entry-level position responsible for supporting a diverse array of DCCK fundraising activities, and reports to the Senior Development Associate. The Development Associate plays a vital role in the successful execution of DCCK’s annual development plan and this position’s assigned duties comprise an excellent foundational skill set for a career in nonprofit development and leadership

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION :
  • Manage daily upkeep of DCCK fundraising and development database.
  • Serve as administrative coordinator for United Way, CFC, and employer matching gift programs.
  • Research prospective donors and generate reports on giving trends.
  • Support financial reconciliation process through detailed and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Provide excellent front-line customer service skills to a diverse population of community stakeholders.
  • Provide graphic design, mailing, and administrative support for DCCK publications, including direct mail appeals and Annual Report.
  • Support grant proposal and report generation.
  • Maintain consistency with DCCK operating standards as reflected in our contractual agreements. Oversee the implementation of best practices in the field that are most likely to ensure the overall efficiency and success of the program.

Requirements
  • Development database management, to include donor database updates, gift coding, donor recognition activities, and the generation of prompt and accurate thank you letters.
  • Financial reconciliation assistance and donor report creation
  • Donor research
  • Front-line customer service
  • Development Department administrative support
  • DCCK publication design and production assistance, to include graphic design and copy writing.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the development team,
  • Maintain foundation, corporation and individual donor files.
  • Support grant proposal and report generation.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of departmental policies and procedures, as well as applicable government and industry standards, and ensures adherence to them.
  • May need to work (some) evenings and weekends.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Will not directly supervise staff

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 1 year in development, fundraising, marketing, or public relations experience desired.
  • Prior experience with development database software, (e.g. E-tapestry and Raiser edge)
  • High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexible, team focused, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
  • Familiarity and documented experience with basic principles of accounting and reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology, specifically Microsoft Office, graphic design, web design, and social media.
  • Strong interpersonal, administrative, and project management skills.
  • Self-starter, comfortable working independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Ability to stay flexible and keep a sense of humor while working successfully in a fast-paced environment;
  • Desire to be part of a direct service nonprofit organization and specifically advance DCCK’s unique mission.
  • Resourceful, creative, able to demonstrate strong partnership-building, problem-solving and event planning skills.
  • Team-player with strong dedication to the purpose and mission of the Kitchen combined with the confidence that comes from experience and achievement.
  • Positive, enthusiastic, professional image in representing the Kitchen with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • The successful applicant will work well in multicultural teams and with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with database software e.g.; E-Tapestry and Raiser’s Edge
  • Bachelor’s degree or a suitable level of experience in a similar position can substitute for education and will be considered.
