General Purpose

The Geologist is competent in basic geological techniques and has experience handling operational geoscience activities for cross-functional asset teams under general supervision. The individual handles geoscience assignments of broad scope and difficulty, coordinating efficient development of reserves of the assigned project area. Candidates must have the ability to communicate and function on a cross-functional and multi-disciplinary team.
This is an operational development geologist position that will be responsible for drilling several 100’s of wells in the Eagle Ford program. Candidates must be available and willing to maintain constant contact with the drilling engineer and well site 24/7.

Coordinate and oversee drill execution for the asset team including logging, evaluation, course corrections, landing the well, MWD & Mud Log planning/evaluation

Plan, coordinate and ensure QA /QC for all wells in assigned area, including generating pre-drill geologic prognosis, logging programs, hazard analysis, surveying, permitting, directional planning, economic evaluation, AFE processing ,

Data management: loading digital and interpreted data into Geographix

Analyze log data, correlate log tops, generate control points, update mapping systems, perform Prizm log analysis as needed

Assist with asset maturation, development planning, prospect generation, well targeting, and drill planning for the assigned team

Support Asset Team Leader and engineers including participation in reserve booking data collection and discussions, completion recommendations, SWD candidate evaluation, quarterly reviews with upper management, budget planning, and special mapping projects as needed

Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities

Other duties as assigned

M.S. degree in Geology preferred

Minimum of 3 years of experience in onshore, North America oil and gas operators; additional years of experience requires if candidate only has a B.S. degree

Proficient level of skill in Microsoft Office

Command of fundamental geological disciplines including mineralogy, sedimentology, stratigraphy and structural geology

Basic knowledge and utilization of geological and geo-physical computer software and applications

Developing knowledge / experience relating to field development including: operations, reservoir descriptions, geological interpretation, well data integration, reservoir management

Ability to generate novel ideas and leads in maturing areas of resource plays

Horizontal well planning and execution is required

North American shale experience is required

Experience with Geographix is preferred

Basic knowledge of reservoir engineering

Solid analytical and numeric skills

Strong written / verbal communication, including the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of technical specialists within a multi-disciplinary team

Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to produce integrated products and results
