Playworks is a national nonprofit organization that improves school climate, reduces bullying and increases student engagement in school through play and physical activity. Through both our training programs and our on-site direct service, Playworks teaches children to resolve their own conflicts that arise at recess and carry over to the classroom, restoring valuable teaching and learning time. About the Position :
The Development Manager is directly responsible for identifying and attracting various funding sources including Foundation and Corporate Partnerships, Public Funding and individual donors. The Development Manager will plan, coordinate and implement annual fund development plans in order to meet city fund development and budgetary goals. The position requires a current conceptual knowledge of the city's philosophy with an ability to leverage relationships and partnership opportunities for the overall benefit of the city. This is a full-time exempt position which reports to an Executive Director.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Development Management:
Design and implement an annual development plan for the city’s operation together with the city’s Executive Director
Assist the Executive Director with designing a corporate sponsorship strategy customized for city prospects, implement that strategy and share best practices with the organization
Manage and execute the city's development activities including developing foundation relationships, corporate sponsorships, and individual donor solicitation activities
Solicit grants and donations:
Prospect and cultivate relationships with foundation staff, corporate representatives and individual donors
Engage the city's Board of Directors including implementing and coordinating Board fundraising activities such as house parties, mail solicitations, and donor outreach
Prepare and submit foundation grants and corporate requests
Coordinate individual donor solicitations including end of year appeal mailing, house parties, major donor campaigns, and other events
Manage corporate relationships including designing and executing corporate volunteer activities
Solicit government grants as needed
Prepare and submit reports to funders
Prepare regular reports on development progress against targets
Community Engagement:
Assist with the planning and execution of city related special events
Conduct community relations campaigns within a specified geographic region
Serve as contact for local funders, host program visits and seek new relationships in the philanthropic community
Manage and expand the volunteer program to bring additional volunteers into the Playworks the city's community, with a recognition that those volunteers lead to additional resources, including potential corporate partnerships, individual donors, etc.
Recruit and supervise interns and office volunteers to support development efforts in the city
Attend, assist and represent Playworks at various key fundraising events/functions, speaking engagements, tours, and other programs. Responsible for organizing a portion of these activities
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of development experience preferred
Strong knowledge of effective fundraising strategies including grant seeking, individual donor cultivation, corporate employee volunteer programs and event production
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Business, Non-Profit Management, Marketing or related field preferred
Possess excellent organizational and analytical skills and the ability to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines
Strong computer skills, ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results and proficiency in MS Word and Excel; knowledge of Salesforce preferred
Excellent written and verbal skills for effective communication and the ability to facilitate small and large group presentations
Ability to conceptualize the city philosophy and to communicate the concept to others effectively, and with desired results
Network of potential friends/colleagues that can be leveraged for the city's benefit
Ability to maintain poise and demeanor appropriate to portray an image of professionalism as defined by Playworks
Documented history of successful business development, account management and direct sales strategy
Demonstrate skill in applying and modifying knowledge of practical problem solving, recommending solutions, and implementing and evaluating changes
Ability to travel in a geographic area and work flexible hours
