  • Job Summary: This position will support LLUSS’s strategic plan and the organization’s mission to continue the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ, while embracing the core values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Wholeness. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Philanthropy, the Development Officer is responsible for securing large annual gifts from alumni, grateful patients and friends of Loma Linda. Performs other duties as needed. Job Specifications: SDA applicants preferred. Bachelor’s degree required plus a minimum of one (1) years of related work experience in marketing, public relations, planned giving or related field required. CFRE Preferred, Valid Driver’s License required. Keyboard, mouse, calculator, fax, copy machine, phone usage. Ability to input data/information into computer and the ability to speak clearly. Good communication skills with both individuals and groups are necessary in the development of long term personal contacts with prospects, donors and other individuals. Strong written and verbal presentation skills as well as strong organizational skills. Self starter. Requires human relations and interpersonal skills in order to demonstrate an outgoing, tactful, congenial, sensitive response to needs of others. Ability to initiate, develop and maintain long term relationships with donors and prospects. Ability to listen and understand key aspects of a donor or prospective donor conversation to identify needs and find solutions that satisfy donor passions and institutional needs. Must possess the ability to manage complex tasks and meet deadlines. Must be entrepreneurial, perceptive, have good independent judgment and have abilities to analyze, assess/evaluate, explain/teach and problem solve. Calculations, manipulating numbers, interpreting numbers, attention to detail, memory, problem solving and reasoning are also important. Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision but have the ability to take instruction. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with internal and external constituents. Ability to see and recognize faces; hear on the phone and in person. Must speak, read, and write in fluent English.
