Position Summary:
This position will lead the mass spectrometry part of the protein characterization group. This position reports directly to the Director of Protein Characterization, is expected to work independently, and oversees associates in the lab. The candidate should have an established track record characterizing antibodies, proteins, and peptides. This position will be mostly utilizing mass spectrometry as the major characterization methodology. However, the candidate is expected to be knowledgeable in a broad array of other characterization techniques including chromatography and gel electrophoresis. The candidate should have excellent team, effective organizational, and writing and presentation skills.

Principal Responsibilities:
1. Experimental characterization and method development for monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins by mass spectrometry and other techniques. (50%)
a. Intact molecular weights analysis using LC-ESI-TOF.
b. Peptide mapping using LC-ESI-TOF and ESI-QTOF.
c. Structure and biophysical analysis.
d. Daily operation of MS equipment.
2. Participating in general laboratory operations including equipment maintenance and organization (10%)
3. New technology evaluation (15%)
4. Authoring technical reports, department-specific protocols and general operating procedures (15%) and managing associates (10%)
