DESCRIPTION

Early Intervention offers in-home and center-based education and therapy services for children from birth to three years old who have developmental delays or are at risk of delay, and their families. Your child's and family's unique and changing needs are fully supported through our comprehensive developmental services. Our multi-disciplinary team of special educators and therapists provides structured developmental and educational opportunities in a blend of individual and small group activities. Our service stresses parental support and education through parent participation which helps you identify your child's and family's needs and provides resources and supports to manage those needs

DUTIES

Essential Functions:
  • Ensure health & safety of consumers, personnel & visitors at all times
  • Ensure a healthy, safe & clean environment
  • Ensure highest ethical & business practices
  • Ensure compliance with all legal requirement and agency policies
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of this position
  • Provide curriculum / activities for individual children to encourage developmental gains
  • Participate in and/or lead developmental groups including but not limited to:
oPlanning curriculum
oLead circle
oSet up stations
oProvide education & information for parents regarding development & resources
oAssess progress of individual children within the classroom setting
oRun stations in a variety of developmental areas
  • Complete assessments & reports of child's development in the areas of cognition, language, social & self care (see duties for more detail)
oprovide age level equivalents for children
oWrite developmental backgrounds & appropriate goals for each area assessed
  • Provide case management services to children & families in program (see duties for more detail)
oDocument all necessary activities in program files
oParticipate in any meetings regarding the child including
oProgrammatic meetings
oCoordinate child and family services
  • Provide home visit services within community and natural environments (see duties for more detail)
oDocument all home visits & services provided
oPlan curriculum for home visits
oRegularly provide information to staff regarding child

REQUIREMENTS
  • Communicate relevant information about children & family needs to team members
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Participate in IFSP/IEP meetings
  • Conduct behavioral observations/develop individualized behavior plans as assigned
  • Knowledge of typical & atypical child development across all developmental domains
  • Provide collaborative staff training to new team members including child assessment, case management, intervention skills, curriculum planning, etc.
  • Lead Parent Groups as needed
  • Physical Requirements as detailed in job description.
DUTIES: assigned individually by manager/director based on job hours & responsibilities
CASEMANAGEMENT
  • Document all necessary activities in program files
  • Consolidate written information for developmental reports
  • Refer to appropriate therapies within & outside of agency
  • Participate in any meetings regarding the child including
oIFSP meetings
oIEP meetings
oParent conferences
o6 month parent conferences
  • Programmatic meetings
  • Send assessments & correspondence regarding child in timely manner
  • Provide transition information & guidance
  • Coordinate family services with appropriate regional center
GROUP LEADER/GROUP RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan curriculum to enhance development in all domains
  • Lead circle
  • Delegate duties to staff for the group
  • Set up room/stations for the session
  • Ensure cleanliness of room at end of session
  • Complete all billing
  • Provide education & information for parents regarding development & resources
  • Assess progress of individual children within the classroom setting
  • Run stations in a variety of developmental areas
EVALUATIONS
  • Must have good working knowledge of typical/atypical child development
  • Must be comfortable providing assessment & age level equivalents for children
  • Complete assigned sections in a timely manner
  • Write developmental backgrounds & appropriate goals for a variety of children/disabilities
HOMEVISIT SERVICES
  • Provide in-home services to a variety of children with disabilities
  • Document all home visits & services provided
  • Plan curriculum for home visits
  • Refer for therapies within & outside of agency as appropriate
  • Coordinate services with regional center case manager and other team members.
  • Regularly provide information to staff regarding child
  • Complete all billing
QUALIFICATIONS

Developmental Specialist 1

Education: Min. BA in Early Childhood Special Education or related field.

Developmental Specialist 2

MA or Ed.11 in Social Work, Child Development or related field. ECSE credential or MA in Special Ed. preferred.

Substitution: None

Certification: Standard First Aid & CPR with Infant, Child, and Adult

Other: Communicate clearly & effectively, verbally & in writing, project a professional & positive image at all times. SPANISH / ENGLISH Bi-Lingual speaking strongly desired.

PRE EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Clearance with the Department of Justice by completing a background check consisting of having fingerprints processed by appropriate law enforcement agencies (paid for by Abilities United)

Provide clean DMV printout during interview process. Proof of valid driver's license & copy of auto insurance liability coverage.

POST EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Physical, 2-step Tb test and physical examination. Maintain all job related certification requirements.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to provide direct services to children, including sitting, kneeling, crawling, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
