Located at the Health Promotion and Wellness Clinic at the Naval Health Clinic Newport, RI, this Dietitian position is responsible for the overall development, planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating, and directing of nutritional educational programs and activities. The position provides clinical consultation and both individual and group education on a broad range of nutrition topics and serves as the nutrition expert in the collaborative planning of health promotion and wellness programs. Typical duties include:
- Providing individual nutritional assessments for patients.
- Advising patients and their families on nutrition, therapeutic diets, meal planning, and food preparation.
- Evaluates nutritional material for patients and staff.
- Organizing nutritional annual events.
- Providing direction and assistance to the clinic café to ensure that nutritionally adequate menus are established and maintained.
- Participating in staff meetings and conferences as clinical expert.
- Conducting nutrition classes and participating in health and community programs on nutrition.
- Conduct Blue H (nutrition portion) and assist the tenant commands with the same.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: This position has a Positive Education Requirement. In order to verify that you meet the positive education requirement for this position, you must submit a complete copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (Course title, semester/quarter hours and grade). Failure to submit this information will result in an ineligible rating. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Completion a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in one of the following: dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science (the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by The American Dietetic Association (ADA) in effect at the time of graduation).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: On e year of specialized experience in the same or similar work at a level of difficulty and responsibility that has equipped me with the necessary knowledge, skills or abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Creditable specialized experience includes: Serving as the nutrition expert on all related issues; planning, developing, implementing and managing nutrition programs; providing consultation services to patients regarding nutrition; providing individual nutritional assessments for patients; and conducting health promotion classes.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: Completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science.
QUALITY RANKING FACTOR: This position has a Quality Ranking Factor (QRF). This is a quality ranking factor that could be expected to enhance significantly the performance of the applicant in the position. The QRF is: Possession of a certification as a registered Dietitian as certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of American Dietetic Association. You do not have to possess the factor in order to be rated eligible; however, applicants possessing the factor will receive additional points. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide such evidence when applying.
- Possession of a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or Certified Diabetes Outpaitent Educator (CDOE) certification is desired but not required.
