& Minimum Requirements:
Georgetown University Press seeks a creative and experienced editor to manage the creation and maintenance of its digital products associated with foreign language learning materials. The Digital Editor, Languages (DEL) will be one of a three-person team publishing foreign language learning, linguistics, and reference titles, which account for 70% of GU Press’s $4M annual revenues. These revenues are crucial to the press and allow us to operate without a direct subsidy from the university.
The DEL will be responsible for creating digital projects that accompany printed texts and ensuring their timely release, as well as creating born-digital materials. This position is crucial to keeping the workflow moving in the languages division and freeing up acquisition editors’ time to acquire more projects, thereby increasing revenue. This person works closely with the project’s editor, editorial and production manager, and the marketing director to define the scope, determine the budget, and execute the strategy for creating companion and ancillary products for defining textbooks and other learning objects. This person will work directly with authors and vendors to execute the plan. S/He will monitor and enforce schedules, will coordinate and handle pre-production work and monitor digital production budgets, and will work with the acquisitions editor, print production team, and marketing & sales team to ensure a smooth and timely product launch.
Minimum two years experience working in academic or textbook publishing. Bachelor’s degree required. Computer savvy in standard office software; experience with foreign languages a plus. Ease and comfort working with a large variety of multimedia programs; experience with HTML5/CSS, Java, XML/HTML and course management systems on multiple platforms a plus. Knowledge of digital video a plus. Knowledge of at least one foreign language preferred.
