Must be within commuting distance to a WellPoint office.

Serves as the lead resource over all Data Center (multiple data centers) infrastructure and assets, in excess of $50 million. Ensures that the data center is and remains FISMA (Federal Information Security Management Act) compliant. Responsible for 99% up time at data center, with full business continuity and disaster recovery for all systems. The data center supports $15 billion Virtual Data Center IDIQ work for CMS. Additionally, this data center “hosts” the following:

  • Government assets, applications, and infrastructure utilized by every Medicare beneficiary in the country (43 million lives)
  • Largest customer relationship management system utilized by the Federal Government
  • Largest deployment of web chat for the Federal Government
  • Largest data warehouse for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association
  • Entire infrastructure and applications for the predictive modeling and improper payments systems for the largest payer of health care in the world
  • All infrastructure, software, and hardware for one of the largest Medicare Administrative Contractors in the country
This position ensures robust configuration management (cm), quality assurance, maintenance, security, and CCB controls for all Data Center technology and assets. In conjunction with other key NGS Health IT and Enterprise IT, Business Development, and Strategy staff, expands and broadens use of the Data Center assets and service offerings into other programs and markets and with other customers to ensure data center optimization. Responsible for new data center hardening, expansion, design, and build out. With multiple tenants/customers, it is critical that to provide uninterrupted service and stability, including robust disaster recovery, incident management, operational readiness, and business continuity plans. Controls all customer moves and changes and the addition of customers at the Data Centers. Manages a domain or suite of applications. Oversees strategic planning, budget development and management for multiple cost centers, contract compliance and any necessary integration of government regulatory requirements. Serves as a key IT Data Center personnel for various programs and contracts. Serves as key member of the NGS team providing the necessary infrastructure for hosting production of applications and databases and supporting high availability, backup/recovery, and virtualized disaster recovery services to the production datacenters (in support of retaining and wining additional federal contracts). Management duties include hiring, training, coaching, counseling and evaluating performance of direct reports.

Requires BS/BA in Computer Science or related field; 10 years of data center operations and IT infrastructure experience, 5 years of electrical engineering or systems engineering experience, and 10 years of management experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Preferable that the data center operations experience be with multi-tenant data center services. Data center certifications such as Uptime Institute ATD or ATS are required. Experience in establishing and maintaining Tier III data center certification is highly desired. Experience in federal healthcare and certification requirements for FISMA (Federal Information Security Management Act) is also desired. Expertise in relevant tools and technical skills required (x86 Architecture based systems, RAID 9 [all levels], SAN [EMC/Hitachi], virtualization [storage, network, OS], networking protocols [OSI model], facility management and maintenance, and one or more of the following hardware platforms [Sun, HP, Dell]). Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects required. Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills required. Highly effective relationship management skills with the various stakeholders and customers of the Data Center. Ability to manage across geographically diverse associates and vendor partners.
