The Director, Research and Development Innovation's principle responsibilities will be to identify, evaluate and recommend new therapeutic modalities, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical devices, healthcare service delivery platforms and other potential opportunities deemed consistent with the company's current and future strategic goals. The successful candidate will be at the interface of drug discovery, clinical development, and the commercial organizations to drive new opportunities within the company. In partnership with the Executive Medical Director, Research and Development Innovation, he/she will work closely with and be a vital part of business development efforts, while successfully executing on the company's new strategies, i.e., identifying avenues to reinforce Purdue's specialty pharma business, assessing new product opportunities for growth across all biomedical technologies and services, and new target identity. Specifically, this role will manage the scientific and clinical review of new drug and non- drug product opportunities. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive platform to identify and evaluate opportunities across the company's therapeutic areas of interest. • Proactively explore new opportunities to drive future growth, consistent with R&D Innovation strategy. Lead and manage scientific and commercial review of new drug and non-drug product opportunities • Manage individual project diligence efforts. Lead individual project efforts with a focus on coordinating market analysis with technical and commercial development plans. Work closely with internal experts to perform diligence. Sponsor external research and consulting arrangements as appropriate. Prepare materials for project funding requisitions. Serve as project leader and key interface with external partners for any material external relationships. • Maintain appropriate documentation of external transaction and relationships within proprietary opportunity tracking system

Educational Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree; MBA preferred.

Required Experience & Technical Requirements

Technical Requirements • A minimum of 7 years (bio)pharmaceutical, medical device or diagnostic industry experience with expertise working with business development and identifying innovation products, with an advanced degree or post-doctoral training. Alternatively, technology transfer or venture capital investor experience in the medical industry would be considered. • Demonstrated success in working closely with licensing and business development in a leading/successful company in the medical industry. A deal sheet is not a requirement for this position. • Wide experience in all aspects of identifying, evaluating and influencing innovative strategies. • Broad knowledge of the biomedical industry. Has an understanding of the science, clinical practices, market dynamics, competitive products, etc. in domestic and international markets. • Knowledge of pain and central nervous system marketplace a plus.Brief Description/Overview:
