The new Director, Advancement Services (the Director), will report to the Vice President of Development, Diana Prescott Zais, and be a member of the development leadership team. This senior position will function as the COO for development, providing highly strategic and valuable support for both the Vice President of Development and the Vice President of Alumni and Friends Network. Overseeing a dedicated team with three direct reports, the Director will provide overall direction for all aspects of development operations. Candidates should have extensive advancement services experience that includes superb staff management, working knowledge of best practices and database management.

Minimum Experience
Reporting to the Vice President of Development, Diana Prescott Zais, the new Director will join the five-member development leadership team and provide strategic and analytic leadership for both Development and Alumni and Friends Network ( AFN ). The new Director will be a seasoned and confident advancement services leader, responsible for contributing strategies and direction across all aspects of relationship management and processing. She/he will possess a strong working knowledge of advancement services best practices achieved through having worked in several best practice shops. Specifically, s/he will: 
Design, implement, and manage development operations, stewardship, gift and finance administration, prospect development, advancement database administration (Millennium), business and intelligence reporting, budgeting and administrative support 
Lead Processing and Relationship Management Groups to provide timely, accurate and vital information and business processes in support of Development and AFN 
Ensure effective management of advancement operations, including accurate management, maintenance and reporting of all financial and biographical transactions 
Direct relationship management and prospect development efforts including oversight of stewardship activities and prospect development with an emphasis on supporting relationship development via data analysis and donor-centrism.

The new Director will advocate for and make certain that systems are in place to take care of internal customers, and that data integrity is assured. As an experienced systems thinker, the new Director will ensure that the right questions are asked to generate the best information available to support Development, Finance, IT and AFN , among others. S/he will lead and/or participate in various working groups focusing on Development’s and AFN’s high priority and strategic initiatives, demonstrating the ability to work as a key contributor and collegial partner.

Partnering with Development senior leadership, the Director will participate in the creation, development, and communication of Development annual and strategic plans, ensuring that measurable goals and objectives are achieved for Advancement Services. In addition, s/he will establish and monitor Advancement Services metrics.
The Director will oversee a solidly-performing and engaged advancement services team of fourteen with three direct reports: Associate Director, Gifts and Processing; Associate Director, Database Analytics; and Associate Director Relationship Management. As a seasoned ‘people manager’, the new Director will use his/her well-developed supervisory skills to engage, motivate, coach, train, delegate and professionally grow staff members, especially through change.

Additional Required Skills & Abilities
The best candidates will possess: 
Exceptional supervisory and program management skills along with the ability to lead during change and achieve excellence 
At least 10-years of development operations or advancement services in several best practices shops, with experience in operations, management and administration 
Comprehensive understanding of the overall responsibilities for Advancement along with the knowledge of data, technology, reporting and program services to support it 
Ability to be both strategic and detail-oriented 
Demonstrated knowledge and experience using automated business and systems tools for Advancement operations 
Ability to design and work with systems to create and analyze data 
Experience developing, documenting and maintaining policies and procedures 
Strong computing skills (MS Office); knowledge of Millennium a plus 
Superb written and verbal skills 
Flexibility and adaptability 
An understanding of Crystal Reporting and knowledge of Millennium a plus
