The Director, Business Development & Operations will lead development and execution of strategies to aggressively grow the NBA Development League’s revenues, fan base, and consumption metrics. The position requires a unique mix of strategic thinking, analytical skills, creativity, marketing expertise, salesmanship, and “hands on” operational ability in an entrepreneurial environment. This person will work collaboratively with not only the NBA D-League’s VP/CMO, business development, basketball operations department, teams, and external partners; but all sales and marketing functions at the NBA including, Marketing, Global Marketing Partnerships, Interactive Services, Broadcasting, Communications, Global Merchandising, Events & Attractions, and International.

Major Responsibilities
• Develop strategy and lead execution of sales and marketing initiatives and new business platforms to grow League business
• Track, analyze, and interpret all customer and consumption data, combined with outside market intelligence and trends, to identify best practices, key trends in fan behavior, marketplace opportunities, recommended marketing tactics and positioning for the NBA Development League (including messaging, target demographics, content development opportunities, marketing channels, media partnerships, sales prospects, etc.)
• Lead execution of key sales, marketing, and operational initiatives working collaboratively with all NBA departments and NBA D-League teams. Develop business plans, P&Ls, sales materials, workplans and lead and participate in coordinated efforts to achieve desired results. Manage the planning, coordination, and activation of League Events (All-Star, Showcase, Pre-Draft, Fantasy Camps, etc.)
• Oversee the activation and coordination of League wide marketing partnerships
Required Skills/Knowledge
• Data-driven approach and analytical skillset
• Experienced in developing and executing aggressive and entrepreneurial business development and marketing platforms
• Bias towards revenue growth and embraces active participation in the sales process
• Budget, P&L development, financial projection, and management experience
• Strong knowledge of the NBA Development League and its positioning
• Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and be part of a team
• Outstanding communication, writing, and presentation skills
• Excellent relationship builder
Experience Needed
• 7+ years of experience in strategic planning, consulting, strategic marketing, sales, or other related field
• Experience in a fast paced, entrepreneurial, collaborative business environment
• Extensive work in Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and other MS Office applications and analytical tools
• Sales experience preferred
Educational Background Required
• Undergraduate degree required
• MBA preferred
