Education Pioneers seeks a Director, Chicago & Midwest to mobilize its network of Fellows, Alumni, and Partners to dramatically improve outcomes for the neediest students throughout the area. The Director serves as the primary agent to implement a powerful and transformational experience for the local cohort of Fellows, to support Partner organizations in meeting their talent needs, to lead efforts to expand programs and partnerships in new areas throughout the region, and to provide strategic support and programming for locally based Alumni throughout the year. Successful candidates will be detail oriented, strategic thinkers, possess exceptional relationship-building and organization management skills.

Primary Responsibilities

This position will report to the Executive Director, Northern Region, and will have a direct report (Program Manager.) In addition, he/she will collaborate closely with the other members of the regional team. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Expansion & Management

  • Lead all aspects of fellowship programming, including program management, implementation, facilitation and evaluation
  • Collaborate with the National Team and regional Directors in the design of fellowship content
  • Thought partner with the Executive Director and regional team in developing strategies for growing program impact and broadening presence in the region
  • Assist in the development and long-term implementation of our expansion strategy across the mid-west
  • Serve as a skilled coach, mentor and guide for Fellows providing direct and targeted support regarding their fellowship experience, ongoing professional development and long-term career planning
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate the success of the Chicago & Midwest Region Fellowship Programs
  • Represent Education Pioneers at events in the broader community to build our brand and presence in the Northern Region Chicago Site
Partnership Development

  • Lead efforts to develop new partnerships with education focused organizations across the Chicago & Midwest Region
  • Effectively cultivate and manage existing partnerships; identify opportunities to deepen existing partnerships
  • Provide a high degree of support to all current & prospective clients in support of their human capital needs year round and throughout the fellow placement process
Recruitment & Selection

  • Recruit and select a diverse group of talented candidates into Education Pioneers’ Fellowship programs (Graduate Student Fellowship, Yearlong Fellowship, Analyst Fellowship) in 2013
  • Represent Education Pioneers at local recruiting events and generate excitement for our program among prospective applicants
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with applicants to assess their candidacy for our programs
  • Work closely with the regional team to make final decisions regarding admissions into the Graduate School Fellowship and Analyst Fellowship
Alumni Support

  • Enhance the effectiveness of the Region’s alumni by helping them become impactful change agents at high-impact/high-potential education organizations through connecting them to local education leaders, leveraging events and gatherings, providing one-on-one career counseling, and offering other relevant supports
  • Lead efforts to strengthen the alumni network throughout the Region
  • Engage locally-based Alumni in aspects of the Fellowship Programs to serve as Partners, speakers/panelists, and mentors to support the fellowship experiences
Experience and Qualifications

  • At least five years relevant professional experience including program development & management, business development, sales, development/fundraising
  • A proven track record of building effective relationships/partnerships and expanding programs or services
  • At least two years experience effectively managing and evaluating people
  • Highly developed facilitation and networking skills
  • Strong comfort level interacting with executive level clients/constituents
  • Strong strategic thinking skills
  • Comfort operating in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong team orientation and ability to provide and accept feedback, and ability to work in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Knowledge of the current K-12 education reform landscape required, significant education reform experience in the Chicago Metro Area preferred
  • Graduate degree preferred
