The Director will support Vice President - Accounting Research & Policy in developing and disseminating technical accounting policy under US GAAP. Support Vice President in all deals through review of technical accounting under US GAAP, and contract compliance issues, as well as coordinating activities with other finance departments including Development, Treasury, FP&A, internal audit, brands finance and operations finance, and assisting with the detail review of documentation of new contractual arrangements. Lead the team in writing policies and statements of position supporting those policies, and assisting the organization in implementation of those policies. Drive relevant and timely training to the accounting organization.

What will I be doing?

You are specifically responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

Leads the team to perform research and reports to Vice President the impact of proposed International and domestic transactions on the financial statements.

Establish and maintain protocol for accounting review of all new contractual arrangements.

Coordinate the accounting analysis of potential impacts of new contractual arrangements.

Actively engage members of other departments (Development, Treasury) to understand current and on-going contract negotiations to understand key terms and accounting implications.

Provides timely US GAAP guidance for all research related questions

Works with external auditors to provide requested documentation regarding significant new transactions.

Disseminates, organizes and communicates regarding assignments and projects within the department/project team.

Establishes priorities and delegates work to team members accordingly, while ensuring optimal allocation of resources.

Ability to read and understand contracts and contract negotiation.

Document the Company’s global accounting policies and procedures in conformance with US GAAP and create work plans to assist in implementing change and process documentation to support the compliance of these policies.

Lead the team to evaluate new accounting pronouncements and write Company comment letters to the FASB, where needed.

Evaluate compliance of policies and Sox process environment for all International areas, including review of regional offices

Assist in evaluating process changes and improvements, in conjunction with the Business Process team.

  • Provide relevant and timely training to all Corporate accounting locations and meet those team’s needs for technical training.
  • Manages task assignment and leverages resources in McLean to perform detailed work analysis.
  • Ensures business plan is being followed and goals are being achieved and provides feedback accordingly.
  • Enforces policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the department and Company.
  • Operates within established budgetary parameters
  • Coordinate resource needs globally, but specifically focused on McLean, and collaborate with the Research & Policy team in Watford on all international initiatives.

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:

Four (4) year college degree

Minimum of eight (8) years experience in Finance and Accounting Environment.

Ability to travel as required.

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions

Advanced degree

Minimum of four (4) or more years working in a corporate accounting environment or public accounting experience.

Proficient in use of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Experience in designing and training accounting policies

Experience in leading a team and strong management skills and leading longer term projects

Certified Public Accountant license.
