The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks a Director of Corporate Relations. With general oversight and guidance from the Associate Vice President for Development, this position is responsible for generating private gifts from corporations to support the programs and needs of University of Maryland University College. Manages a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects.
Specific responsibilities include:
I. Provides leadership for securing corporate and corporate foundation support to UMUC. Also, assists in securing private foundation support.
II. Designs and implements a program to identify potential corporate donors to UMUC; designs and implements strategies to interest prospective donors in contributing; assures the preparation of appropriate solicitations via direct personal requests and written proposals.
III. Manages a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects and seeks to raise a specific annual monetary goal developed in consultation with Vice President and Associate Vice President. Develops and implements strategy to secure sponsors for all university fundraising events.
IV. Prepares and submits proposals for new and renewed support to corporations in accordance with the guidelines issued by each.
V. Provides support for the preparation of timely acknowledgement letters on behalf of the President and the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
VI. Works closely with the Associate Vice President of Grants and Donor Relations to ensure the submission of timely stewardship reports to corporate donors, and assists with foundation donors and the response to other requests for information.
VII. Works closely with the Cyber Coordination Team. Works closely with the Office of Corporate Learning Solutions (CLS) to identify potential corporate partners for the University.
VIII. Maintains a working knowledge of the universities priorities. Works with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and the Associate Vice President for Development to identify funding sources whose current interests match current institutional needs.
IX. Supervises the Assistant of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
X. With the VPIA and AVP assists in setting strategies and meeting goals for the office and monitors the progress towards the goals.
XI. Guides the design and implementation of a regional business campaign and executive alumni roundtables.
XII. Works closely with key members of UMUC in identifying potential corporate donors.
XIII. Works closely with the Alumni Relations Office in identifying alumni that can assist UMUC in the corporate giving area.
XIV. Coordinates the selection process for the Alumni Corporate Leader of the Year award.
XV. Works with Board of Visitors, Alumni Board Members, and other campus volunteer advisory groups as assigned.
XVI. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required education: Bachelors degree. Required experience: Successful candidates will possess a minimum of five years of experience in fundraising. The appropriate equivalent of sales, marketing or business development experience in the for-profit sector may be considered in lieu of fundraising experience. Demonstrated capacity to meet major fundraising goals. Successful track record in soliciting and closing five to six figure gifts. Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary; proposal writing experience. Travel is required. Preferred experience: Fundraising experience with corporate relations. Demonstrated ability to handle complex tasks, to formulate plans and to carry out objectives, and to interact effectively with individuals. Experience in capital campaigns preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Experienced with MS Office Suite and database management.
