The University of Miami Center for Translational Research is seeking a Coulter Project Director to be the primary resource for the university to enable and lead an innovative translational research process. This individual will have direct impact on improving patient care and translational research efforts in the School of Medicine. Candidates must be comfortable in a fast paced and dynamic environment that interfaces with the academic and business worlds. They should have demonstrated significant leadership roles in prior positions in biomedical start-up companies, including expertise in development of business plans, understanding of funding for startups, interaction with venture groups and angel investors and a network of business contacts. A major effort for this position requires the ability to coach and mentor academic faculty on the commercialization of medical technology. Experience with entrepreneurial decision-making, objective thinking and the ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of people is essential. As a mentor and advisor to scientific faculty, the CPD will need to build trust and respect with highly educated and research focused people as well as the business community at large.

Bachelor's degree required, but a Master's degree is preferred in either a scientific or business field. Five years experience in the following areas: in the private sector for biomedical start-up companies;demonstrated ability to manage and promote complex business and scientific projects successfully; sensitivity to the differences in culture between the academic and industrial environment; a “rolodex” of business contacts that is useful in the commercialization of life science technology; and experience in new life science technology assessment and its commercial impact. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
