Full-time Faculty Position
The Department of Pathology, University of Maryland School of Medicine seeks a qualified PhD or MD Cytogeneticist who is ABMG board certified to serve as Director of the Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory. This is a full-time faculty position for a candidate who has a primary interest and experience in cancer cytogenetics with additional experience in human genetics. The successful candidate will provide medical and technical oversight of the daily operations of the Cytogenetics Laboratory, to include high quality clinical services, staff development, quality control and quality assurance programs. The Director, Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory, interacts with an active Hematology-Oncology group in the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center and the Division of Human Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics, and a broad spectrum of clinical and research faculty. The applicant should have a record of scholarly achievement, including experience in peer review funding, and outstanding education experience in training medical students, residents, fellows and graduate students. Academic appointment and salary will be commensurate with experience.
The University of Maryland School of Medicine is the first public and fifth oldest medical school in the United States. In 2012, the School of Medicine ranked 6 th among public medical schools and 16 th among all medical schools by the AAMC and increased its external research funding to $429 million. The University of Maryland Medical Center has 757 total licensed beds, 333 intensive care beds, and performs close to 20,000 surgeries per year. There is an active emergency department which sees over 66,000 adult and pediatric patients. The Cytogenetics Laboratory is CAP accredited and processes over 2,000 tests annually with eight laboratory staff members, including a supervisor with extensive experience in all areas of cytogenetics. The laboratory tests include chromosome analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis of prenatal, postnatal, and hematological malignancy specimens.
