The Director, Domestic Tax is responsible for leading the domestic tax group including federal, state, and sales/use tax, and managing all activities.
Manage the domestic tax area (federal income, state income, sales/use tax audits)
Manage the federal and state tax due diligence process related to acquisitions
Manage the IRS audits at the Field audit and Appeals levels. This includes working with the field auditors on the IDR responses, positioning to minimize any exposure, negotiations, and protests.
Mange the state income and sales/use tax audits
Review the transaction plans for any tax federal and state issues to assist in managing the company’s tax risks. The transactions involve complex federal and state income tax issues and require strong technical and analytical skills.
Manage/develop the staff
Plan out all resources for the area and prioritize projects
Coordinate work with the other areas of the tax department
Manage the pool staff with the other areas of the tax department to ensure there are sufficient resources to drive the projects during the year.
Drive efficiencies in all federal and state tax processes
Monitor legislative changes and determine any impact to the company.
Implement any changes to the current processes due to changes in legislation.
Work with the units on any federal or state tax issues
Manage the tax consultants
Additionally, manage the federal and state return process including:
Review of federal consolidated income tax returns and partnership returns
Review of state tax returns related to I/C royalty and interest add backs including knowledge of tax law as it relates to the positions taken
Review of estimated tax payment calculations for reasonableness and completeness
Management of pre-acquistion state tax return filings and estimated payments
Ensure filings of all annual reports are accurate and timely file
Ensure necessary controls are in place and identifying necessary resources required to complete timely and accurate state tax returns and state estimated payments
Bachelors degree with accounting major
Minimum 10 years federal and state income tax experience in a Big 4 accounting firm and/or comparable tax experience in a large corporation
Strong federal and state tax technical skills
