Chief domestic legal counsel reporting to Vice President and General Counsel of GDLS, responsible for assisting in the management of a legal department for a $4+ Billion company. Responsible for providing legal counsel to the company on a wide range of legal issues – particularly on US domestic issues, including, but not limited to litigation, investigations, business agreements, government contracts, employment matters and general risk mitigation.
Advice to be provided includes counsel and service to internal business clients concerning legal rights and obligations of business; drafting or reviewing contracts involving purchases, sales, real estate, employment, licenses and related matters.
Keeps current on legislative issues, statutes, decisions and ordinances of quasi judicial bodies.
Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuit. Responsible for the creation, review, updating, maintaining and upholding of various company policies and procedures.
Acts as agent of corporation in various transactions.
Advises Company regarding concerns for risk assessment.
May develop, review, or implement company-wide and/or functionally specific training programs.
Will work with outside counsel to direct activities.
Undergraduate degree and JD degree from an accredited and nationally recognized law school required.
Must have at least 7-12 years of legal experience required.
5 years of experience in private practice at a reputable law firm strongly preferred.
International law experience a plus.
Must have outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate (both orally and in written form) and interact effectively with business leaders at all levels of the organization in a clear, concise, professional, effective manner.
Must be able to identify critical issues requiring action and recommend and execute action plans in timely manner.
Must be able to deal effectively with strategic issues as well as tactical operational details.
Some management experience required.
Ability to work in a team-based environment is required.
Must have admission to practice law.
Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; must be able to handle complex matters, with multiple initiatives going on simultaneously.
